CALLING ALL DEALERS IN UN-APPROVED FILM AND VIDEO WORKS

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has noticed the resurgence of uncensored and unclassified foreign and local films in Nigerian markets. For the avoidance of doubt, the attention of all producers, importers and retailers of these illegal products is being drawn to section 33 of the NFVCB Enabling Law Cap N40 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, viz:

“As from the commencement of this act, no person shall exhibit, cause or allow to be exhibited a film without a censorship certificate issued by the Board for such exhibition.”

By this announcement, the Board is granting all concerned up to 31st January, 2016 to clean up their acts and bring their movies for censorship. All unlicensed distributors/retailers of films and DVDs are to immediately get licensed or renew their licenses with us within the same grace period. After this grace period, enforcement activities of the Board shall be used to confiscate the offending products and prosecute their merchants.

Also, dealers in compressed DVDs with more than one film are to note that movies are to be released in the form in which they were approved for such.

Signed
Ms. Patricia Bala
DG, NFVCB
