PETER OBI THROWS WEIGHT BEHIND UCHE EKWUNIFE, CASTIGATES VICTOR UME

Senator (Mrs.) Uche Ekwunife
The immediate past governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, and stakeholders from Anambra Central Senatorial District, have thrown their weight behind Senator (Mrs.) Uche Ekwunife in her bid win the forthcoming Anambra Central Senatorial election re-run.

Yes, it would be recalled that the Court of Appeal in Enugu had nullified Senator Ekwunife’s victory at the last election and ordered fresh election within 90 days.

Peter Obi declared his support for Senator Ekwunife at a Town Hall meeting in Awka, a few days ago, noting that it was high time Ndigbo played mainstream politics to be able to jostle for collective benefits due them.

He said: “We need somebody that is strong, a senator at the centre. Victor Ume will be a spectator at the Senate. The senate does not need multiple titleholders or long traditional cap wearers, who rather than stay in Abuja, run down to Anambra State every weekend. We need somebody who is strong in the caliber of Uche. She will win. Those who caused the nullification made a great mistake.

“The Court of Appeal faulted only Uche Ekwunife’s nomination whereas same party and primary conducted for her fellow Senators, Andy Ubah (Anambra South) and Stella Oduah (Anambra North) were upheld by the same Court of Appeal”.

In a communiqué after the meeting signed by Kenneth Ekemuo and Hon. Ben Oranusi, the stakeholders appreciated the stewardship rendered by Senator Ekwunife during her brief stay in the Senate with regard to clinching the post of the Senate Committee Chairman on Petroleum Downstream.

Also, they expressed happiness that Senator Ekwunife had secured appointments for several persons within the period under review, moved many motions beneficial to Ndigbo and supplied hospital equipment to 50 health centres.
