NIGERIANS, WHAT HAVE YOU BENEFITTED FROM WATCHING BIG BROTHER NAIJA EVERY DAY?

It is very unfortunate that majority of Nigerians like doing what will not add value to them every day and hate what will add value to them. Why is it so? Is it as a result of acute stupidity or illiteracy? Each time we, at Tectono Business Review, see people discussing and arguing over what happened in Big Brother Naija, we feel very bad. Some foolish media firms and hungry bloggers report what happens in that belittling reality show. Nigerians have enough to waste watching adults behaving like kids. The show is neither educative nor informative and only meant for people who have very low intelligence quotient. These people have very strong aversion for intellectual adventures.

NERC, NIGERIANS DO NOT WANT INCREMENT IN ELECTRICITY TARIFF

The intense and justified desire of stakeholders to have uninterrupted electricity power recently received a shock from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the regulator of the power sector when its Acting Chief Executive, Tony Akah, was quoted to have told members of the Senate Committee on Privatisation that without an increase in electricity tariff or a subsidy from the government, Nigeria would not be able to get steady power supply. He attempted a justification of his position by employing the now old-fashioned arguments of destruction of gas pipelines, huge cost being sustained by power companies, foreign exchange scarcity and fall in the rate of the local currency, Naira, lack of cost-effective tariff or subsidy or incentives that would induce the power companies to commit more money to the sector.

FOR RECESSION TO END, THERE MUST BE A BALANCED ASSESSMENT OF THE ECONOMIC CONDITIONS THAT LED TO THE RECESSION

Professor Yemi Osibanjo
Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo’s recent declaration that the current economic recession will soon be history raises question as to authoritativeness. Is Osinbajo’s pronouncement based on concrete facts and figures or is it mere rhetoric? Coming from the highest authority in the land, such statements ought to carry weight and be reassuring.

NIGERIA’S LACK OF POLITICAL WILL TO TACKLE THE DOMESTIC ISSUE OF NAIRA EXCHANGE RATE

Professor Yemi Osibanjo, SAN
When Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, went in mid-January to Davos, Switzerland, at the head of a delegation of ministers and businessmen for this year’s World Economic Forum, he apparently carried the message of remote intent concerning the economy. He told reporters that the 40 per cent gap between the official and parallel market naira exchange rates was not helpful to the country’s recovery and growth plan and as a result the Muhammadu Buhari administration was engaged in talks with the CBN on the need to close the gap “very soon.”
