2018 BUDGET: SENATOR VICTOR UMEH CLARIFIES THE CONTROVERSY SURROUNDING ENUGU AIRPORT & SECOND NIGER BRIDGE.

Senator Victor Umeh
Erstwhile national chairman of APGA and serving senator from Anambra State, Chief Sir Victor Umeh, has shed light on the hullabaloo about the reduction of allocation meant for Enugu Airport and Second Niger Bridge. According to him, out of the N2billion contract for the Enugu Airport, N1.7billion had already been paid to the contractor.

He said, “There was a fraud of ₦1.7 billion in Enugu Airport, and that during the budget defence and oversight processes, the National Assembly discovered that out of the ₦2billion contract for the Enugu Airport, ₦1.7billion had already been paid to the contractor, adding that what was left to complete this project was just ₦300million, a reason the National Assembly approved ₦500million for the project — which is even ₦200million more than what was required.”

According to the senator, who is a renowned estate surveyor and valuer, the huge amount of money earlier allocated for the Second Niger Bridge was not used.

In his own words, “The sum of ₦20billion allocated for the second Niger bridge in the 2016 and 2017 budgets were not utilized by the executive and yet Nigerians were being deceived that work on the project had reached advanced stage.

“The person who raised these false accusations against the National Assembly, is the same person that refused to release fund appropriated for the Second Niger Bridge in the 2016 and 2017 budget.

“We are approaching another election and they wanted to create a false impression that the National Assembly is responsible for their failure to complete these projects. Please don't be deceived.”
