WILL NIGERIA LISTEN TO IMF’S CALL TO REMOVE FUEL SUBSIDY?

By
Lukman Otunuga,
FXTM Research Analyst.

The IMF has once again called on Nigeria to phase out government fuel subsidies, citing better use of the funds on social safety nets like healthcare, education and freeing up fiscal resources for infrastructural projects. http://www.tectono-business.com/2016/02/contemporary-step-by-step-guide-to.html Historically, fuel subsidies are an extremely sensitive issue which can have various impacts on economic growth and investor confidence. Following the IMF’s recent report, the finance ministry was quick to reject the idea of completely dropping the popular fuel rebate on the basis that the state imports all fuel and includes the subsidy as a cost of doing business.

NIGERIA WEEK AHEAD: FOREIGN EXCHANGE RESERVES, FED AND BOE IN FOCUS

By
Lukman Otunuga,
FXTM Research Analyst

Nigeria will unveil updates on its latest foreign exchange reserve figures in the week ahead, amid renewed optimism over the progress of US-China trade talks. http://www.tectono-business.com/2016/02/contemporary-step-by-step-guide-to.html Investors will be keeping a close eye to see whether the nations foreign exchange reserves have increased in April given how WTI oil prices peaked above $66.00 last week before tumbling lower. Sentiment towards the Nigerian economy is likely to receive a boost should if reserves meet or exceed the $47 billion expectations.

NIGERIA PMI UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT; US GDP IN FOCUS

By
Lukman Otunuga,

It has certainly been a painful trading week for emerging market currencies thank to the combination of rising oil prices, a broadly stronger Dollar and renewed concerns over slowing global growth. http://www.tectono-business.com/2016/02/contemporary-step-by-step-guide-to.html

NIGERIA’S PMI IN FOCUS; DOLLAR SOARS TO FRESH 2019 HIGH

Lukman Otunuga,
FXTM Research Analyst

The main risk event for the Nigerian economy today will be the pending Manufacturing and Non-manufacturing PMI reports for April. Investors will be keeping a close eye on these to see whether the Purchasing Managers Index indicates that Nigeria’s manufacturing and non-manufacturing sectors remain in expansive territory. http://www.tectono-business.com/2016/02/contemporary-step-by-step-guide-to.html Such a development will add to the positive sentiment that has already been lifted by rising Oil prices.

EARNINGS SEASON KICKS INTO HIGH GEAR; NAIRA STEADY

By
Lukman Otunuga,
FXTM Research Analyst

The Nigerian Naira held steady against the Dollar on Tuesday, as investors awaited the nation’s Manufacturing and Non-Manufacturing PMI data for April, scheduled for release on Friday. With today’s economic calendar for Nigeria void of Tier 1 economic reports, the Naira is poised to remain influenced by external drivers, in the form of rising Oil prices and the Dollar’s valuation. With a handsome chunk of Nigeria’s export revenues acquired from Oil sales, appreciating Oil prices will be warmly welcomed by the economy.

MARKETS STEADY AS US-CHINA TRADE DEAL NEARS REALITY, NFP IN FOCUS

Written by: Lukman Otunuga, FXTM Research Analyst
Investor risk appetite towards stock markets is edging cautiously higher on further optimism that the US and China are nearing closer to agreeing a “very monumental” trade deal.
