FG REFUSES TO BAN IMPORTATION OF TOKUNBO VEHICLES

Muhammadu Buhari, President, Federal Republic of Nigeria
Tectono Business Review gathered that the Federal Government has refused to place embargo on the importation of fairly used vehicles, otherwise known as tokunbo into the country.

This development was made known by the Director General of National Automotive Council (NAC), Alhaji Aminu Jalal, who stated that what the NAC intended to do was to strictly implement the Federal Government’s industrial development plan which aimed at boosting local manufacturing of vehicles in the country.

According to him, there is nowhere in the world where the prohibition of fairly used vehicles has been effective. He made it clear that government policies would force down the influx of used cars into the country, adding that one of such policies was government’s approval of the mandatory patronage of made-in-Nigeria vehicles to boost the local automotive industry.
