RE: NON-PAYMENT OF HOUSE RENT FOR 4 YEARS

Public Complaints Commission,

Tafawa Belewa Square, Lagos

Dear Ma,

RE: NON-PAYMENT OF HOUSE RENT FOR 4 YEARS

I was traumatized when I got home on Thursday, March 10, 2022 and discovered, to my chagrin, that a letter with the above title dated March 4, 2022 was pasted on my door. Upon enquiries, I found out that people, especially my detractors, had been coming into the compound to read and photograph the letter.

It is an infringement on my human right, as a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for you to concoct false and denigrating information against me with my name and paste on my door on a broad daylight for the public to read and photograph. Very soon the letter will surface on the social media, if it has not already surfaced.

According to your letter, you are in possession of my last receipt of rent payment. How did you arrive at “Non-payment of rent for 4 years”? Tenants pay rents upfront. Rent paid today expires in a year’s time. The last rent I paid started counting from November, 2018 and expired on November 2019. I packed into the house in November, 2012. Now, take a look at the table below:

Nov., 2019 to Nov, 2020

Nov., 2020 to Nov., 2021

Nov., 2021 to Mar., 2022

A year’s rent unpaid

A year’s rent unpaid

4 months’ rent unpaid

In totality, I owe 2 years and 4 months’ rent. So, how did you come about “Non-payment of rent for 4 years”?

Your pejorative letter against me has exposed me to public odium, ridicule and contempt. It has tarnished the remnant of my good image left by my landlady. As a businessman, the public is my source of income.

I therefore demand an immediate written retraction of the falsehood you passed to the public about me with an unreserved apology which must be pasted on the same door. Thereafter, you can give me an appropriate invitation letter. Thanks.
