Rt. Hon. Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi |
Gburugburu,
as the governor is fondly called, spoke when he welcomed the management members
of UNCEF Enugu led by her Chief Field Officer, Mr. Charles Nzuki.
In his
address, Mr. Nzuki, appreciated the governor for his administration’s strong
collaboration with UNICEF, noting that through the UNICEF/Enugu State
Government affiliation, a lot had been achieved in the areas of UNICEF
supported programs in health, education, water and sanitation and protection. He
lauded the efforts the governor had demonstrated towards eradicating Polio in
Enugu through his administration’s strong steadfastness and result driven
strategies in universal child survival and development goals and restated
UNICEF’s commitment in supporting Enugu State to achieve its developmental
agenda, especially towards improving the welfare of women and children.
In his
response, Governor Ugwuanyi stated that the state had enjoyed strong alliance
with UNICEF which had produced results particularly in the lives of children
and women to the extent that more children in the state had realized their
rights in health, education and protection. He also said that such programs had
provided free education for children in primary and junior secondary schools,
renovations of state primary and secondary schools, free maternal and child
health care among others, adding that through the Ministry of Gender Affairs, the
state had staged war against child trafficking and all forms of child abuse in
the state.
