Nicholas Martin, CEO, Jumia Nigeria |
Mr. Nicholas Martin, who made the assertion above, is the Chief
Executive Officer of Jumia Nigeria.
He made this known on day-two of the TECH+
Exhibition and Conference, held in Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island,
Lagos. Yes, the crew of Tectono Business Review was at the conference. Mr. Martin noted that the Nigerian
economy had a huge chance to grow from opportunities available from technology.
According to
Mr. Martin, Nigeria is at the forefront of technology and the best place for
the next mobile revolution, if government and the private sector can develop
needed infrastructure to strengthen the ecosystem for innovation in technology
in Lagos and other cities.
In his own
words: “It is not that it is going to be a place for
the smartest people in the world, but it is only here that there is a massively
connected population. It is ahead of China, India and the United States. Over
there, the desire to patronise mobile Internet and services is much lower. Here
it is different. We are working with MTN to ensure that people can retail on
mobile. We are dong retail on mobile re-inventing the wheel online. We have
thousands of people that have downloaded our app and are making purchase. Some
of them have never seen a laptop or a desktop. Where Nigeria is going to have
an edge over other countries in the wave of software revolution is mobile.”
In her own
speech, the Senior Manager, Masterbrand, MTN, Mrs. Saidat Lawal-Mohammed, said that MTN was creating an enabling
environment and re-working with partners to ensure the growth of the ecosystem.
