July 13, 2022 was a red-letter
day in the history of AFRICUNIA HOLDING.
It was a day that the conglomerate celebrated the 5th anniversary. The ceremony
should have taken place on July 10 2022, but owing to public holidays in
Nigeria, it was rescheduled.
It was a celebration of humongous,
gargantuan, colossal and gigantic success within just a space of five years, in
spite of all the hurdles encountered. It was a celebration of the apogee and
crescendo of transition from a good company to a great corporation. In all
ramifications, AFICUNIA HOLDING fits into the business and financial
lexicography of a great corporation.
The ceremony which took place at
the Nigeria head office started exactly by 12:00 noon with opening payers
followed by self-introduction of all members of staff of the conglomerate.
Speeches were made by the Founder
and President, Dr. Chancellor Nzenwa,
the Executive Secretary, Madeleine
Winkler, some members of staff who came from other offices in Nigeria that
converged in Lagos where the head office in Nigeria is located.
Also in attendance were members
of staff from offices in United Kingdom, Canada, Zambia, Suriname, Dominican
Republic, Malaysia, Vietnam, and more countries who joined the occasion via zoom conference
meeting app.
Dr. Nzenwa reminisced on how the
flagship company was started five years ago, all the hurdles and obstacles
which were surmounted to attain the contemporary great height. He literally
mentioned all the names of people that worked with him since the inception of
the conglomerate.
He said, “Those of you who heard
me speak in July 2017 will appreciate that those beginnings for AFRICUNIA
ECOSYSTEM were not so easy, especially the formation of AFRICUNIA BANK. We were
oppressed, we were maligned, and we were called scammers, Western Union, and
Money Gram specifically targeted me and blocked me from receiving and sending
money. That is the extent to which people went to pull us down. But as a result
of the tenacity of our founding members, the AFRICUNIA BANK was born on the
10th of July 2017.
“As I said it was a very modest
beginning, with less than 3 staff, and capital of less than $10,000 USD. A
modest but important beginning. Many people have been critical on this journey,
sacrificed, gave up their comfort zone, and steady, steady air condition, and
moved to Africa with its downsides in pursuit of the actualization of this
grand vision of elevating the less privileged and unbanked people.
“Today I want to pay tribute to
them, especially our Executive Secretary Mrs. Madeleine Winkler who has
singled-handedly invested more than $500,000 USD of her own money into this
project. I must also pay tribute to our partners, in Africa, Europe, Asia, and
beyond. Special regards go to the Management and our Staff who have loyally
served this organization over these years. Some are no longer with us, and I
invite you to join me in remembering and appreciating them all.”
While ending his speech, he made prayers
for the continuous exponential growth of the conglomerate and members of staff.
The occasion, which was anchored
by the Communications Manager, Joseph
Idoni, was a very groovy one with a lot to eat and drink.
