As people Enugu State prepare to elect a new governor on March 11, 2023, there have been speculations over the political party and candidate that will be victorious.

In the state, there are four political parties that will participate in the gubernatorial election which are:
Labour Party (LP) whose candidate is Hon. Barr. Chijioke Edoga
All Progressives’ Party (APC) whose candidate is Chief Uche Nnaji
Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) whose candidate is Barr. Peter Mbah
All Progressives’ Grand Alliance (APGA) whose candidate is Hon. Frank Nweke Jr.

According to speculations, the real contest will be between the LP candidate and the PDP candidate.

In addition to being a very popular candidate in view of his refined personality, having studied law up to master’s degree at the University of Oxford and having a very successful legal practice at the international law firm of late Dr. Joe Nwodo, Chijioke Edoga may use the overbearing influence and humongous popularity of Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to emerge as the governor-elect. Recall that LP won virtually all the national assembly seats from Enugu State on the basis of Peter Obi’s influence.

PDP is the ruling party in the state and has produced all the governor since 1999. Peter Mbah will likely use the power of incumbency and maximum support from the outgoing governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and he senator representing Enugu East senatorial district, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, to win the election. There are equally rumours about a plan perfected by PDP to buy over the electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to manipulate election results in favour of Mbah.

There are also so many falsehood being peddled in the state about the PDP candidate, Peter Mbah, by his supporters. Consequently, the Executive Chairman of Tectono Group, High Chief Ugwokeh Nnaemeka, raised fundamental questions about Mbah and his quest to become the governor of the state.

On his Facebook page, Chief Nnaemeka wrote, “All those proponents of the emergence of the PDP governorship candidate, Peter Mbah, as the governor of Enugu State, I have some fundamental questions for you.

“Are you aware that Peter Mbah is a political neophyte and weakling devoid of capability of taking decisions by himself?

“Do you know that his Godfather will be the one that will rule Enugu State by proxy if PDP wins?

“Are you oblivious of the fact that Mbah will never go against the directives of his Godfather because they have so many other dealings outside politics?

“Why do you think that Mbah's Godfather was too desperate to deliver him during the PDP governorship primary election to the extent that he engaged in fisticuff with one of the aspirants?

“Who is the real owner of Pinnacle Oil?

“What was the provenance of the capital used in starting the oil business?

“What is the level of indebtedness of Pinnacle Oil to AMCON?

“How do you think that the gargantuan indebtedness will be offsetted?

“Enugu people, think!!!”

It can be regurgitated that the Tectono boss had made public his ambition to contest Enugu State governorship election under the platform of Labour Party come 2027.
