THE BENEFITS OF ADVERSITY

We all love prosperity, and we should. Life is too short to suffer in any case. But did you know that adversity has benefits too? I have faced my fair share of adversity, and I can tell you for free that to a very large extent, it contributed immensely to both who I have become today and the successes I have achieved. Among the many benefits of adversity, these seven are the best.

1. Adversity Builds Character.

It helps mold you into who you become. You are compelled by adversity to be either your best version or your worst version. And, if you have a clear vision of your destination, adversity builds the character required to be that best version.

2. Adversity Teaches Self Control.

When facing adversity, every decision counts. You snooze, you lose. And some losses can set you back permanently. Adversity thus teaches you to understand that life happens, but what is most important is how you respond to it. And it all boils down to self-control.

3. Adversity Teaches Wisdom.

Nothing dispels foolishness and imbues you with wisdom like adversity. It pulls the wool off your eyes and helps you see the world as it truly is. The Street wise man is that man who has graduated cum-laude from the school of hard knocks.

4. Adversity Builds Self Confidence.

Adversity is like training. The more practice you have the better you become at handling it. It helps you conquer your fears and makes you confident in your ability.

5. Adversity Creates Resilience.

Because the option of giving up is not palatable, adversity compels you to be resilient.

6. Adversity aids self-discovery.

Most successful entrepreneurs and successful artists today are successful not in spite of adversity but because of adversity.

7. Adversity prepares you for greatness.

No school or family, or organization prepares you for greatness as much as adversity. It helps you have a deep understanding of life and humans, and positions you to leverage your experience for greatness.

So, if you're presently going through adversity, remember, rough roads lead to beautiful destinations. Learn all there is to learn because they will be required when you get to your place of prosperity.
