GTBANK, WHY SHOULD YOUR ATM SHUT DOWN WHILE TRANSACTION IS PROCESSING?


I am Chief Ugwokeh Nnaemeka, the Executive Chairman of Tectono Ventures Limited. Let me state it unequivocally that I and my company bank exclusively with GTBank. We were convinced to choose the bank owing to its world-class banking services and because it is one of the biggest and most capitalized banks in Nigeria.
 
However, the high esteem I had for the bank crashed when I stopped to make withdrawal from the bank’s ATM at the Herbert Macaulay Library Building at 338, Herbert Macaulay Street, Near Agnes Bus Stop, Yaba, Lagos. That was on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 by 12:08pm. When transaction was processing, the ATM, all of a sudden, shut down. It was as if I was using a desktop computer without a UPS and there was power outage. Everything suddenly went blank. Fortunately, my ATM card was released. I also got a debit alert. For God’s sake, why should I be debited when the ATM did not release a dime to me? I went into the library and complained to one of the attendants and was shocked when he told me that the ATM’s battery was weak. What? I had to pinch myself to ensure that I was not dreaming. The battery powering an ATM of GTBank became weak and the workers responsible for it did not recharge or replace it. Common, GTBank is not known for this level of negligence. I am totally disappointed with GTBank.
 
I thought that the reversal of the transaction would be immediate. After about 3 hours, I left my office for the Murtala Mohammed Way, Yaba branch of the bank to lodge my complaint. When I got there, excess of 100 customers were on the queue to enter the banking hall. I reluctantly joined the queue. I was later attended to by one Folashade Ajibola of the customer care department after spending excess of 2 hours. I was told to fill a certain form and was made to believe that the reversal would be effected within 24 hours.
 
I incurred a loss for leaving my business and spending more than 2 hours in the bank for no fault of my own, just because certain workers of the bank are not alive to their responsibilities. I am disappointed with GTBank. Something has to be done to ensure that this incidence does not repeat itself. The workers saddled with that ATM responsibilities should be punished.
 
It is more than 24 hours since I filled the transaction reversal form and I have not gotten my money back. If the management of GTBank know what is good for them, let them effect the reversal as soon as possible. I am not joking with them.
