TOILET AND BATHROOM OF A BUILDING AT ABULE-IJESHA, YABA, LAGOS
The Executive Chairman of Tectono Ventures Limited, Chief Ugwokeh Nnaemeka, visited a building at Abule-Ijesha, Yaba, Lagos and what he saw at the place moved him into tears.

The property was inherited by a the landlady from her late father. The landlady lives in Lagos Island. From the pictures above, in addition to the building being old and dilapidating, the toilet and bathroom are no go areas. The drainage system is in a mess. You can see a gutter filled with stagnant filthy water around the toilet.

According to one of the occupants of the building, whenever it rains, the dirty water level goes up and anyone accessing the toilet or bathroom must put his or her legs in the water.

One wonders how people survive in such as place. The compound is filled with children below five years. Ladies, mostly undergraduates of the University of Lagos and Yaba College of Technology live there. They are exposed to virginal infections and all sorts of diseases.

With the population explosion in #Lagos, there is a massive shift in #development towards the outskirt of Lagos like #OPIC, #Isheri, #Mowe, etc. These places are developed and are further developing rapidly. You can invest in the #properties and sell them after a year and make excess of 100% #profit. Another tenant made it explicit that the landlady does not care about the welfare of people living in her building. According to him, what the landlady knows how to do is to come and ask for rent and always fights anyone who delays paying her. She does not involve herself in the repair of the building.

“I have been living in this compound for more than 20 years. The wall, floor and roof all leak doing raining season and the landlady does not care. Each time I complained to her, she said that if I did not want to live again, I should pack out. Imagine that nonsense. Can’t you see how old and dirty this place is?

“Tenants collectively pay sewage evacuating companies for the evacuation of sewage and also pay for the repair the roof of the toilet and bathroom whenever they leak. Personally, I spend over N20,000 every raining season on fixing my roof, walls and floor and still all parts of my room leak. The funny thing is that the landlady increases house rent virtually on a yearly basis. One of the tenants used his own money to buy and install that gate.

“If I had money, I would have left this place a long time ago. I live here with my wife and children and it is only God that has been saving us from several infections.”

This terrible!!! There is a great need for the Lagos State Ministry of Environment to visit this building as soon as possible to save the lives of people over there.
