PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY
Dr. Michael Ogunkoya is driven with the
culture of professional excellence that is in consonance with the dictates of
world class medical ethics, principles and practices that will invariably add
value to human medicine and existence. These, he does not compromise.
Dr. Michael Ogunkoya is a Gynecologist and Obstetrician of international
repute. He is a fellow of the Hungarian
College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists. Also, he is fellow, International College of Surgeons. He
is the Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of The Hope Valley Fertility Clinic Limited. This outfit is currently
at the fore of Assisted Conception Technology
i.e. Invitro Fertilization and
reproductive medicine in Nigeria. Dr. Ogunkoya leads a crack team of both
British and Nigerian fertility experts that manage the clinic’s activities.
Dr. Michael Ogunkoya was born on January 12, 1949. He has his
roots in Shagamu, Ogun State. He obtained his First School Leaving Certificate
from St. Paul’s Primary School, Shagamu in 1960. His secondary education was at
Ijebu Muslim College, Ijebu-Ode and the Federal School of Science, Lagos where
he passed the West African School Certificate Examination in 1967 and GCE ‘A’
Levels in 1969 respectively. Armed with the enabling credentials, Michael
gained admission into the University of
Lagos to study Medicine. Having
matriculated in 1970, he graduated with MBBS
in 1975.

This Medical Guru, did his internship programme between 1975 and
1976 as House Officer in Obstetrics/Gynecology, Medicine, Surgery and
Pediatrics attached to the General Hospital Lagos and Mercy Street Children
Hospital, Lagos. He did the National Youth Service from October 1976 to
September 1977, as a General Medical Officer with Abuja (now Suleja) General
Hospital.
Dr. Ogunkoya acquired further training and qualifications in his
chosen branch of Medicine from highly acclaimed institutions in Nigeria and
Abroad. In 1979, he specialized in Anaesthesiology
and bagged a Diploma in Anaesthesia (D.A)
from the College of Medicine, University
of Lagos.

Between November 1979 and May 1981, he worked at the Saint
Nicholas Hospital, Lagos. Indeed, this man’s career, which started
substantively in 1981 is most fascinating. From 1982 to 1986, he had a stint
with the Institute of Obstetrics
Gynecology, University of London, The Royal College of Obstetricians and
Gynecologists, London and the Academy
of Science, Semeiwess University, Budapest, Hungary, i.e. between July 1981
and January 1983, he worked as a senior house officer in three different
Medical outfits, namely the Royal Free
Hospital, Hampstead London 1981, the Good
Hope Hospital, Birmingham, West-Meidlands (1982) and Prince Charles Hospital Merthr Tydfil, South Wales (1983). From
June 1983 to May 1984, he worked at the Saint
Paul’s Hospital, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire (1983). From June 1984, he
served as Senior House Officer with the Kings
College Hospital, London and continued as registrar at the Canadian Red Cross Hospital, Taplow,
Berkshire. He bagged an M.D from Semeiwess
University with specialization in Obstetrics
and Gynecology and thereafter, returned to Nigeria in 1986.
He is a Fellow of the
International College of Surgeons.
On his return to Nigeria, he established the Dolphin Specialist Medical Centre, Lagos where he was consultant in
Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Dr. Michael Ogunkoya held this post until 2001 when
he established The Hope Valley Fertility
Clinic Ltd.

pregnancy rate using Urinary Versus recombinant FSH for stimulation in a
standard in-vitro Fertilization (Test tube baby) cycle in Caucasian and
Nigerian women below the age of 38 years.

(SOGON), member of Nigerian Medical
Association (NMA). He is also a member of the Island Club, Lagos. In
addition to his portfolio as the Chief Executive Officer of The Hope Valley Fertility
Clinic Limited, he was the coordinator of the Continuing Medical Education
Programme of the Lagos State Chapter of the Guild of Medical Directors.

Dr. Ogunkoya has won a number of awards and honours including
the prestigious DINMA (Development in
Nigeria Merit Award) award in 2004. In 2005, Today’s people international
bestowed a Diamond Award for
Professional Excellence on Dr. Michael Ogunkoya in recognition of his sterling
achievements in his chosen career i.e. Human Medicine, especially in the area
of infertility treatment using Invitro Fertilization Technology (IVF). Since
2003, he is being quoted in “Who is Who”
in Nigeria for his immense contributions to the scientific/medical
development of our motherland, Nigeria.

He is married with four children; his hobbies are reading,
seaside relaxation and watching nature. He also loves attending post-graduate
professional symposia and scientific meetings both locally and abroad.

Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).
