Google Play has
released a policy update, emphasizing native support for tokenized digital
assets such as NFTs for applications and games on the Google Play Store.
According to
Google Play product manager, Joseph Mills, the store now allows video game
publishers to sell NFT games.
This new
policy has allowed the incorporation of NFT games with Android devices, as long
as some few rules are followed.
Mills said
app developers must state if a game allows users to earn or buy NFTs or
cryptocurrencies, adding that they are not authorized to advertise any
potential earning from playing or trading activities.
Moreover, developers
cannot sell loot boxes or allow players to gamble, and must adhere strictly to
Google Play’s Real-Money Gambling, Games, and Contests policy.
Game
developers can continue to offer tokenized assets as part of the gaming
experience as long as they abide by these rules.
Analysts are
of the opinion that this new policy would be helpful to investors, artists, and
other stakeholders in the blockchain space, as well as boost user loyalty via
NFT rewards and review traditional games with unique user-owned content.
